The Change rEvolution

Why do we vow each morning to eat healthier, exercise regularly, go to bed on time, or drink less only to find ourselves going back on our promises by the end of the day or week? Committing to a complete lifestyle overhaul creates stress, which makes us seek the comfort and security of habits and routines—often times the very ones we’re trying to change. We are also living and working in environments that require us to act in complete opposition to how we are hardwired to function. Human survival has long hinged on both getting and conserving as much energy as possible: eat as much as you can, while you can, and don’t expend energy unnecessarily. It takes a tremendous amount of willpower to resist eating high-calorie, high-fat, high-sugar foods that are available at every turn. Making ourselves move and get regular exercise in environments that don’t require it also drains willpower. Willpower is a limited resource and becomes depleted very quickly and easily.

This program will teach you how to successfully make long-term lifestyle changes. Instead of experiencing stress, frustration and eventual failure, you will feel the satisfaction and enjoyment that comes from the success of positive, new behaviors that enhance your resiliency, performance and health. You will understand how the brain and body respond to change and create a strategic plan that works in any environment. Instead of only using the conscious part of your brain, you will also enroll the unconscious portion – creating a plan that uses 100% of your brain instead of only 50%. You will create a system of optimal defaults that make behavior change automatic, and you will soon be on your way to a living a healthier, more resilient life.

Why is topic important? Many industries exist because of our lack of ability to successfully make long-term, positive changes to our lifestyles. Every year we waste billions of dollars on top of hours and hours of time and energy on plans that don’t work. While we are becoming more and more aware of how important healthy lifestyle choices are, we are simultaneously becoming sicker and more overweight. Simply educating people and telling them to use more self-discipline and willpower to make change doesn’t work. While our capacity to take personal responsibility has changed very little in the past 100 years, our environments have radically shifted to exhaust our self-control. We are hardwired to eat as much as we can and move as little as possible, both of which are the default options in most places we work and live.

How is this practical to the workplace? The Metlife Study of Global Health & Wellness, 2010 states “The main cause behind chronic disease has been poor lifestyle choices; workers are spending more time behind their desk, eating less healthfully, exercising less, and experiencing more stress, all as the demands of the workplace increase.”

Considering that people spend about 1/3 of their lives at work, the workplace is the perfect setting to help people make lifestyle changes that improve their health and productivity. This is a low-cost, high-return, rapid solution to reduce healthcare costs, improve productivity and help employees thrive in ever-increasing work environments.

“Jenny was a fantastic speaker that not only has energy, emotion and tons of knowledge behind the topics she covers, but she really makes you think about your health, lifestyle and everyday routine that can be so easily influenced positively or negatively. In a world of change, enhanced technology and never ending demands and challenges of everyday life, she has a great way of breaking down why you make the choices you do and how to fight your inner Sneaky Pete. Everyone really enjoyed Jenny, including myself and I have made several changes to my everyday decisions based on hearing her speak!”
